The joint France-Swiss airport was evacuated for security reasons
While a few more hours are left before the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, Basel-Mulhouse Airport, which is shared between France and Switzerland, asked passengers to evacuate the airport terminal this Friday.
“For safety reasons, the airport terminal had to be evacuated and is currently closed,” the airport explained in a post on social media. Flight operations have been temporarily suspended. Passengers are requested to contact their airline for information about their flight
The police has not yet provided a detailed explanation about the reason for the evacuation of the airport.
This airport is closed while the French rail transportation department is unable to move Olympic passengers due to vandalism. Vandals targeted the country’s railway lines and carried out arson attacks.
Both incidents happened just a few hours before the opening of the Olympics.
