The war in Gaza has claimed the lives of UN staff more than any other event

Philippe Lazzarini, head of the Palestinian Refugee Agency (UNRWA), says that since the creation of the United Nations, the war in Gaza has caused the largest number of casualties. There has been a conflict or natural disaster among the personnel of this organization.

According to Al-Jazeera, Lazzarini mentioned the tragic incident of the martyrdom of an UNRWA teacher who was martyred in the Zionist attacks last week while he thought he was in a safe place, together with his 4-month-old baby.

The head of this UN agency said: “When the war in Gaza started nearly 10 months ago, no one thought that we would reach this sinister point. Nearly 200 UNRWA team members have been killed in Gaza. The people who died are not just numbers, these are our colleagues and friends. There are teachers, doctors, nurses, engineers, support staff and technicians who spent their lives supporting the community. In the end, he said: “I repeat the UN Secretary General’s request for accountability for each and every one of these deaths”.

So far, the Zionist regime has organized 445 attacks against 188 buildings belonging to the United Nations. The regime is also seeking to designate UNRWA, which provides shelter and education services to Palestinian refugees, as a terrorist organization. This action has resulted in the sharp reaction of international authorities. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell last week bluntly called the decision “absurd”, saying: “To declare UNRWA’s activities illegal – and label it terrorist, when it is not – is to target regional stability and dignity. Humanity is all those who benefit from the activities of the United Nations agency.”
