Russia: The opening ceremony of the Olympics was a “huge failure”.
Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, listed a list of shortcomings of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics and said that the ceremony was so bad that “after seeing the photos of this ceremony, I did not believe that Photoshop or It should not be fake.
According to the Moscow Times, Zakharova described the opening ceremony as “ridiculous” and said that holding it outdoors caused guests to sit for hours under “torrential rain”. He also said that the event host could have prevented the audience from getting wet by manipulating the clouds or creating a canopy. The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman also mocked the breakdown of France’s public transport system on the day of the opening ceremony and criticized the excessive presence of homeless people and rats on the streets of Paris. The Russian official also mentioned raising the Olympic flag upside down and mentioning “North Korea” instead of “South Korea” during the team introduction.
Many people, especially tourists who went to Paris to watch the Olympic Games, criticized the opening ceremony and some even considered it the worst opening ceremony in history. This ceremony, which was held outside the stadium and outdoors for the first time, was accompanied by rain. On the other hand, the French railway network was shut down yesterday evening and hours before the opening of the Olympic Games due to what was called “massive acts of deliberate sabotage”, and train journeys from other European and French cities to Paris were severely disrupted. This angered the tourists and some of them faced serious problems to reach the place of the ceremony.
