France 24 television network reported that Canadian authorities announced that firefighters are fighting the largest forest fire that has destroyed part of the tourist town of Jasper in the west of this country.

This area is located in the center of Jasper National Park, Canada’s largest national park, which is famous for its mountains, glaciers, lakes and waterfalls, and is visited by two million people every year. These fires, which are described as out of control and have so far led to the destruction of more than 36 thousand hectares, have destroyed between 30 and 50 percent of the city.

According to the local authorities, it is possible that half of the buildings in the city of Jasper were destroyed by the fire. Western Canada is facing severe drought and has witnessed numerous forest fires in recent days. The wind took the thick smoke to 60 kilometers from Jasper and the residents of this area are also affected.
