The Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement in this regard adds: Moscow welcomes the successful expression of the will of the Venezuelan people and emphasizes its commitment to strengthen relations with this country. We believe that true democracy means the rule of the people.
Russian President Vladimir Putin also congratulated Nicolás Maduro’s re-victory in the Venezuelan presidential election in a message.
In a statement published by the Kremlin, Putin emphasized his readiness to continue constructive cooperation with Venezuela on bilateral and international issues.
Nicolas Maduro, as the main candidate of the left-wing parties, won 51% of the votes and remained the president of Venezuela for the third time and for another 6 years.
Venezuela’s National Election Council announced that with 80 percent of the votes counted, Nicolás Maduro won the presidential election for the third time with 51.2 percent of the votes. Edmundo González, the main candidate of the western trends and the main rival of Maduro, won 44% of the votes.
