The Quad condemned Beijing’s actions in the South China Sea
America considers the rise of China in East Asia as one of the biggest strategic threats against it. Therefore, by forming a squad group including the United States, India, Japan and Australia, this country seeks to create a coalition against China’s actions in this region.
Accordingly, the foreign ministries of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States today (Monday) issued a joint statement condemning the dangerous maneuvers in the South China Sea and pledged to increase maritime safety in this area.
This statement was issued after the meeting of foreign ministers of the QUAD group in Japan. The officials of Japan and the United States identified China as their biggest strategic challenge in the bilateral talks they had with each other in this meeting.
“We are seriously concerned about the situation in the South and East China Seas,” the Quad Group statement said. We once again declare our opposition to any unilateral action to change the situation in this region by resorting to force.
Quad Group also called China’s actions in militarizing the South China Sea and the inappropriate use of Coast Guard and Navy forces against other ships in this sea a matter of concern.
Beijing claims ownership over a large part of the South China Sea. Meanwhile, the countries of Southeast Asia and neighboring countries claim to have a share of this sea. The Philippines, as one of these countries, has now developed its relations with the United States, and this has fueled Manila’s disputes with Beijing.
