The United States wants to impose sanctions on Venezuela based on the election results

Following the protests in Venezuela over the election results, Washington has refused to lift sanctions on the country and is also considering imposing new sanctions.

Two major American media simultaneously quoted high-ranking officials of President Joe Biden’s administration as saying that the United States wants to impose sanctions on Caracas based on the results of the Venezuelan elections.

According to Bloomberg’s report, many American officials have questioned the results of the Venezuelan presidential election according to their long-standing practice of interfering in the internal affairs of other countries.

Reuters also reports that the Biden administration wants to pressure Venezuelan President-elect Nicolás Maduro to release accurate vote tallies, otherwise “the international community will not be willing to accept the announced results.”

Despite the announcement of Nicolás Maduro’s victory in the Venezuelan presidential election by the country’s election authorities with the presence of international observers, the US-backed opposition considers itself the winner of this competition.

According to the announcement of the Election Commission of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro won the presidential elections of Venezuela for the third time with 51.2 percent of the votes.
