Sadieh Timan Prison; Israel’s Guantanamo in the Negev desert

In a military base in the Negev desert, 30 kilometers from the Gaza Strip towards the city of Beersheba, there is a prisoner who the Israeli army immediately after the start of its invasion of Gaza on October 7 2023 and established after the Al-Aqsa storm operation. Many of those arrested in Gaza were taken there, including children, young people and the elderly. 

Reports by human rights centers and the media indicate that Israeli soldiers in this prison commit terrible human rights violations and expose them to all kinds of torture and humiliation.

In December 2023, the first reports about the violation of prisoners’ rights were published, because at that time, the Israeli newspaper “Haaretz” reported cases of torture of prisoners in this camp, and then other media reports and human rights centers were published in the same field.

Since the beginning of the invasion of Gaza, the Israeli army has turned 3 military centers into detention centers for Palestinians, the “Sadiyeh Timan” base in the Negev, the “Anatot” and “Ofer” bases in the West Bank.

According to the explanation of some of the released detainees, as well as some human rights activists and lawyers, “Sadiyeh Timan” prison is located in the heart of the Negev desert, far from any residential area, and is an isolated area separated from the world. /p>

According to the freed captives and their lawyers, Sadieh Timan prison is like a military camp or barracks, not a normal prison; Because many soldiers and tanks, armored vehicles and military equipment can be seen there. 

This prison includes a wide area and is divided into 4 sections for keeping and detaining Gaza prisoners. In each section, there are 4 tin and zinc compartments, which are like warehouses. In each of these metal enclosures, 100 prisoners are detained in inhumane conditions and without the necessities of life.

Based on the information that the occupying army has allowed to be published, there are about 700 prisoners in “Sadiyeh Timan” prison, but some human rights centers have announced that the number of prisoners in Sadiyeh Timan is more than a thousand.
