Algeria’s foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that the move came after France recognized Western Sahara’s autonomy plan. As a result, Algeria has decided to withdraw its ambassador from France.
Algeria’s chargé d’affaires in France will be responsible for the diplomatic representation of this country from now on.
In the statement of the Algerian Foreign Ministry, it is emphasized that this action of France considers the creation of a new region under the rule of Morocco as the only solution to the long-term conflict between the two countries.
France recently announced that it supports Morocco’s plan to establish an autonomous government in Western Sahara.
In 2022, Algeria recalled its ambassador from Madrid in response to Spain’s support for Morocco’s autonomy plan.
