Australia raised the terrorist threat level in this country

The Prime Minister of Australia raised the threat level of terrorism amid concerns about the spread of extremism in this country.

According to Webangah News quoted by Mehr News Agency, citing the Independent, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, expressing concern about the spread of extremism in this country, changed the level of the threat of terrorism in Australia from “possible” to “probable”. .

Mike Burgess, Director General of the Australian Intelligence-Security Organization, has claimed that the country’s intelligence agencies have foiled eight potential terrorist incidents in the last four months alone.

The ‘probable’ terror level is right in the middle of Australia’s five-level national terror threat classification, which has been set to the ‘possibility’ of a terrorist attack since November 2022. Previously, the terrorist threat level in this country was at “probable” for eight years.

Albaniz said at a press conference that this decision is more a reflection of the current situation of extremism in Australia than a specific and known threat.

I want to reassure Australians that probable does not mean inevitable, nor does it mean we have received information about an imminent threat or danger. We are advised that more Australians are turning to a more diverse range of extremist ideologies and it is up to us to be vigilant.

According to him, the number of Australians who are willing to resort to violence to advance their goals and ideals has increased.

The Prime Minister of Australia also asked the country’s lawmakers to be careful about the literature and words they use. According to him, when the security environment is tense, we should reduce the level of tension in discussions because our words and behavior are important.
