According to Webangah News quoted by Mehr News Agency quoted by Tass, following the Ukrainian army’s attack on Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which is controlled by Russia, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant caught fire. According to the officials of this power plant, the fire is burning near the cooling towers.

The telegram channel of this power plant wrote: As a result of Ukrainian bombing, a fire broke out next to the river where the cooling towers are located in this area. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Services are working at the scene of the accident. The fire will be contained soon and has not overshadowed the activity of this power plant in any way.

Yevgeny Balitsky, the governor of the Zaporozhye region, announced earlier that the cooling systems of the Zaporozhye power plant were set on fire following the Ukrainian attack.

According to him, all 6 reactors of the power plant are in cold shutdown mode and there is no risk of explosion. Balitsky also added that the radiation around the power plant and the city of “Enrhodar” is still normal.

Russia captured the Zaporozhye region in the early months of the military operation in Ukraine in February 2022 and annexed it to its territory after holding a referendum and with the majority vote of the residents.
