Türkiye and Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding on security and military cooperation
According to Webangah News quoted by Mehr news agency quoted Yeni Shafaq, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that Turkey and Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the fields of security, military and counter-terrorism.
Fidan made these statements in a joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart, Fawad Hossein, in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, after the fourth high-level security meeting between Turkey and Iraq.
According to the Turkish Foreign Minister, this memorandum was signed between the Iraqi and Turkish defense ministers.
Fawad Hossein, the Iraqi Foreign Minister, says that this memorandum of understanding is unprecedented in the history of the two countries.
Fidan, pointing to the increase in awareness about the PKK terrorist group in Iraq, emphasized that Ankara and Baghdad have made significant progress to fulfill the will of their leaders.
He also said that Turkey and Iraq have been negotiating this memorandum for some time.
Fidan expressed confidence that cooperation will be promoted to a higher level through coordination and joint training centers specified in the memorandum.
The Iraqi Foreign Minister also stated that the PKK terrorist group is currently a banned organization in Iraq, adding: terrorism also threatens the Iraqi society.
According to Fawad Hossein, Turkey and Iraq will establish a joint security coordination center in Baghdad and a joint training and cooperation center in Bishkek to fight terrorism.
