This is the first time that Zelensky openly talks about the purpose of the Ukrainian operation in Kursk. This attack was carried out on the 6th of August. The President of Ukraine had previously claimed that this operation was carried out with the aim of protecting the settlements of the “Third” border region against the incessant Russian bombardment.
Zelensky said in this regard: Now our first priority in general defense operations is the destruction of Russian military forces as much as possible and maximum counterattacks. These measures and counterattacks include the creation of a buffer zone in the enemy’s territory, which is our operation in the Kursk region.
This week, the Ukrainian army destroyed two key bridges in the Kursk region and disrupted the arms supply chain of Russian forces. Pro-Kremlin bloggers confirmed that the destruction of the first bridge, which is located on the Sim River near the city of Glushkov, prevented the transfer and delivery of the requirements of the Russian army, which is repelling the Ukrainian attack.
Ukrainian forces targeted a second bridge in Russia less than two days later. Kursk regional governor Alexei Smirnov confirmed this. Until today, of course, no exact coordinates of the second bridge have been published, but Russian Telegram channels claim that this bridge is located on the Sim River in the village of Zvannoe.
