The United Nations has announced that 2.4 billion people are at risk of extreme heat waves, mainly caused by the climate change crisis caused by fossil fuel consumption.
Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations calls for international cooperation to reduce these risks.
He said in July 2024 that the world must face the challenge of rising temperatures and called for action to care for the vulnerable, protect workers, use data and science to increase resilience and reduce temperatures. The planet has warmed up to 1.5 degrees Celsius by replacing fossil fuels with renewable energies.
