Bashar Assad’s latest stance on the relations between Damascus and Ankara
According to Webangah News quoted by Mehr News Agency quoted by SANA, Syrian President Bashar Assad gave a speech in the parliament of this country and discussed domestic and regional issues.
The President of Syria said regarding the relations between Ankara and Damascus: the meetings held in the past years regarding the relations with Turkey have been fruitless.
Bashar Assad continued: The current critical situation of the world and its consequences for us, leads us to take quick action to correct the possible cases away from the existing adversities. For this reason, we interacted with the plans related to relations with Turkey, which were mostly presented by Russia, Iran and Iraq.
He added: eliminating terrorism and withdrawing from Syrian territory is a result for the benefit of both sides. Improving relations with Türkiye requires a retreat from current policies. This is not a condition, but a right.
Assad continued: As each day passes without progress, losses will accumulate not only for the Syrian side but also for the Turkish side. The first plan regarding relations with Turkey was presented 5 years ago or a little more, and meetings were held on different plans.
He said: We have not occupied the territory of the neighboring country to leave and we have not supported terrorism to stop it. The solution is to speak frankly and specify the positions of the gap.
Assad continued: First of all, the return of relations requires eliminating the factors that have led to the destruction of these relations. We will not back down from any of our rights.
Syrian President added: Any dialogue needs principles to be based on to be successful. Syria always emphasizes the need for Turkey to withdraw from the land it has occupied and to stop this country’s support for terrorism.
In addition to this, Assad, referring to the actions of the resistance axis in the current period and confronting the Zionist regime, said: The resistance fighters in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen are examples. And they are examples that we follow in the way of freedom, dignity, honor and independence.
