Thailand replaces US F-16 fighter jets

The Thai Air Force has announced the replacement of American-made F-16 fighters in its fleet.

According to Webangah News quoted by Mehr News Agency According to Economic Times, the Thai Air Force announced that it plans to modernize its fighter fleet by purchasing Swedish Gripen aircraft instead of the American F-16.

The Thai Air Force announced in a statement that after a ten-month selection process, the Gripen model fighter was found to be the most suitable option.

In the statement of the Air Force of Thailand, it was emphasized that the selection of this type of fighter was done with great care so that this country can use it to defend itself in 30 years. the future and win even more.

The Thai Air Force added: The Swedish Gripen fighter can meet the strategic principles of this country’s air force.

According to the Economic Times, the Gripen fighter jets will replace the US-made F-16 fighter jets that were purchased in the late 1980s.

No details have been released on the number of fighter jets Thailand might buy, but media reports suggest the country plans to purchase around buy 10 of these fighters.

Thailand currently has 11 old Gripen aircraft, as well as dozens of F-16s.
