Türkiye’s Botash talks to import gas from Iran

In this context, a discussion was held with the National Iranian Gas Company and in a meeting with the representatives of the National Iranian Gas Company headed by Saeed Tawakli, Deputy Minister of Oil and CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company, the issues of cooperation between the two companies, especially the long-term supply of Iranian natural gas, were discussed. . Sending natural gas from Iran to Türkiye and transferring gas from Turkmenistan to Turkey through Iran were discussed.
Botash also says in his first public statement regarding the negotiations for the possible extension of the contract with Iran: two companies also discussed the transfer of Turkmen gas to Turkey through Iran.
Alp Arslan Bayraktar, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, previously said that Turkey can purchase up to 2 billion cubic meters of gas from Turkmenistan annually through Iran’s natural gas network.

In the continuation of Botash’s statement, Fidan and Tavakoli emphasized their agreement to continue the cooperation between Botash and Iran’s National Gas Company in the coming period within the framework of deep-rooted relations between the two countries.
Türkiye consumes more than 50 billion cubic meters of gas annually. The country currently relies on gas imports from Russia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Iran through pipelines along with imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from multiple suppliers.
The long-term gas supply contracts of Iran to Turkey, which is about 10 billion cubic meters per year, will expire in 2026.
Butash has recently signed a 10-year contract for the purchase of liquefied natural gas with the French company Total Energy. It also signed LNG purchase contracts with Oman, ExxonMobil and Shell earlier this year.
According to the Daily Sabah report, by diversifying supply sources and increasing gas purchases, Turkey seeks to reach the position of a large regional re-exporter in order to be able to supply gas to the large European Union market.
