The membership of new countries in BRICS was blocked

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia announced that the current members of the BRICS group believe that the entry of new countries into the group is not possible at the moment.

According to mehr reporter to According to Azerbaijan News, during a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said: BRICS members do not consider the membership of new countries in this group to be possible in the current situation.

Lavrov emphasized: In the issue of the expansion of the BRICS group, all the current BRICS members consider it reasonable not to accept new members to this group in the current situation. We used to be 5 countries, but now we are 10 countries. BRICS needs to provide conditions for the gradual entry and familiarization of new countries with the rules of this group, which have been formed over the years.

In his speech, the Russian Foreign Minister added that currently more than 20 countries have asked for partnership and cooperation with BRICS, and 10 countries also want permanent membership in BRICS. At the BRICS meeting in Kazan, suggestions will be made about the future members of this group.

The BRICS group was formed in 2009 by the four countries Brazil, India, Russia, and China, and South Africa joined this country in 2010. Since the beginning of this year, five countries, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Ethiopia have been added to the BRICS group.
