The words of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus come while the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, said during a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly: BRICS members are new members of this group. They don’t consider it possible in the current situation.

Lavrov emphasized: Regarding the expansion of the BRICS group, all the current members of BRICS consider it reasonable not to admit new members to this group in the current situation. We used to be 5 countries, but now we are 10 countries. BRICS needs to provide conditions for the gradual entry and familiarization of new countries with the rules of this group, which have been formed over the years.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia added in his speech that currently more than 20 countries have asked for partnership and cooperation with BRICS and 10 countries also want permanent membership in BRICS. At the BRICS meeting in Kazan, suggestions will be made about the future members of this group.

The BRICS group was formed in 2009 by the four countries Brazil, India, Russia, and China, and South Africa joined this country in 2010. Since the beginning of this year, five countries, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Ethiopia have been added to the BRICS group.
