Taiwan was put on high alert
reported Mehr News Agency Citing Reuters, Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense announced that the autonomous island is on alert after a Chinese aircraft carrier was detected in southern Taiwan.
The statement of Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense states: China’s “Liaoning” flotilla has entered the waters near the “Bashi” channel and is likely to move towards the West Pacific. The army (Taiwan) is still on alert and ready to respond if needed.
China considers the island of Taiwan a part of its territory and despite expressing a clear desire for the peaceful annexation of this island, it has never rejected the use of military power.
The sighting of the aircraft carrier in southern Taiwan comes after US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken warned on Friday of Beijing’s “provocative” move against Taipei. Previously, “Lai Chingte/William Lai”, the president of this island, during a speech at a ceremony held on October 10, pledged that he would resist “Taiwan’s annexation to China.”
William Lai, whom Beijing calls a “separatist”, also claimed that Taiwan is not at the behest of China. After this speech, Beijing stressed that “his provocative actions and statements will lead to a disaster for the people of Taiwan.”
