Joseph Burrell, the foreign policy official of the European Union, said before today’s meeting that the 6 member countries of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council and the European countries have “a common concern about peace and security in the region”.
According to him, both sides are ready to increase their cooperation to face “common challenges”.
Today’s meeting will be jointly chaired by Charles Michel, President of the Council of the European Union and the Emir of Qatar.
Orsella von Derlein, President of the European Commission will also attend this meeting.
Qatar currently holds the rotating presidency of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council.
