United Nations: Western democracy suppresses the right of Palestinian supporters to protest
reported by Mehr News Agency quoted Al Jazeera, Irin Khan, UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and Human Rights, in a report to the Organization’s General Assembly Nations and media accused America, Canada, France, Germany and Belgium of suppressing the right to protest of Palestinian supporters. In this report, he has also accused the Zionist regime of carrying out serious attacks against the media in the Palestinian territories.
In this report, Khan stated that in American universities, especially Columbia University in New York, protests by supporters of Palestine have been met with repression by riot police, and this is a worrying issue.
He also pointed to the imposition of similar restrictions in European countries and severely criticized Germany for completely banning protests by supporters of Palestine since last year.
Khan added that France had tried to impose restrictions similar to Germany’s, but that French courts had resisted, leaving the objections to be decided on a case-by-case basis. Belgium and Canada have adopted a similar approach.
In another part of this report, Khan blamed the Zionist regime for severe attacks on the media in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, including the assassination of journalists, destruction of media infrastructure and denial of entry. International media criticized these areas.
He stated that the repressive policies of the Zionist regime against critical media show the strategy of this regime to silence the voices of journalists and independent media.
