Increasing Chinese movements around the island of Taiwan on the eve of the American elections
reported by Mehr News Agency According to Reuters, Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense claims that in the two days before the 2024 US presidential election, China has increased its movements around Taiwan by flying fighter jets and bombers.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense claimed that since this morning local time, it has detected 37 Chinese planes including J-16 fighter, H-6 bomber and drone. Out of this number, 35 fighter planes flew to the southwest, south, and southeast in order to hold a long-range exercise.
Taiwan also announced yesterday that China has held a “joint readiness exercise” near Taiwan with the participation of ships and fighters.
China held a large-scale drill around Taiwan last month, saying it was a warning against “separatist actions.” The US government and Taiwanese authorities condemned the exercise.
China strongly opposes Taiwan’s new president Lai Ching-te/William Lai and considers him a “separatist”. Beijing considers the island of Taiwan as part of its territory and has always warned against the use of force in order to reunite the island with the motherland and has not rejected it.
Despite China’s warnings about the sale and supply of weapons to Taiwan, America has sold weapons and defense systems to Taiwan, claiming to help the island defend itself. China considers these measures to be a violation of the “One China” principle.
