Trump’s strange request to the future president of the Senate/voting appointment!
According to Webangah News quoted by Mehr News Agency quoted by Hill, Donald Trump, the winner of the 2024 US presidential election, wrote in a message on his social network called “Truth Social” that the Republican majority leader in the Senate should tell him to allow temporary appointments during the closure of this parliament.
This authorization enables Trump to appoint his nominees to various positions, however temporarily, without Senate confirmation.
Temporary appointments during the recess of the Senate, which are considered in the law for emergency cases, are valid for up to 2 years. It seems that Trump intends to use this trick to bypass his opponents in the Senate for various appointments.
Trump wrote in this message: Every Republican senator seeking the coveted post of Senate Majority Leader must agree to vacation appointments! We have to fill the vacancies without any time! Without this, we will not be able to certify people immediately. Sometimes voting takes two years or more. This is what they did four years ago and we must not allow it to happen again. In addition, no judges should be confirmed during this time frame as Democrats seek to secure their judges during the Republican race for Senate leadership. This is not acceptable. Thank you!
Trump’s statements come at a time when there are three options, Senator Rick Scott, Senator John Tune and Senator John Cornyn, to lead the majority of the Senate. The Republicans have also won the Senate elections and have taken control of it, and are expected to take over the majority of the House of Representatives as well.
According to the provision in the US Constitution, the president can bypass the vote if the Senate continues to be closed. However, after the ruling of the Supreme Court and limiting the power of the president for such an action in 2014, the US Senate has not allowed the presidents of this country to do so. Since then, the Senate holds temporary and so-called “formality” sessions when it is closed for more than 10 days, so that the president cannot take advantage of their absence and start filling unqualified confirmation posts.
