The German news agency has described this as intrusive. Upon his arrival in Kiev, Shultz said that Ukraine “has bravely defended itself against Russia’s relentless aggression for more than a thousand days, and Germany is still the most determined supporter of Ukraine in Europe.”
Schultz also added that he will unveil a 650 million euro military aid package to Ukraine in December. On November 15, the Chancellor of Germany made a phone call with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, for the first time in almost two years. The German government announced after this call that Schultz asked Putin to end the attack against Ukraine and withdraw Russian forces from the territory of Ukraine.
Kremlin also described this conversation as a “thorough and frank exchange of views on the situation in Ukraine”. According to Reuters, Zelensky had previously tried to dissuade Schultz from contacting Putin.
