Japan’s foreign minister attends Trump’s inauguration ceremony

The Japanese foreign minister announced that he plans to attend the inauguration ceremony of the US president-elect.

reported by Mehr News Agency According to Reuters, Japanese Foreign Minister Taxi Iwaya says that he will attend the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump, the president-elect of the United States on January 20.

According to Iwaya, the government of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba hopes to maintain close ties with Washington as Tokyo’s security ally.

In an interview with NHK, Iwaya said that Japan intends to establish relations based on trust with the Trump administration. According to him, on this trip, he is looking to meet with Senator Marco Rubio, Trump’s choice for the US State Department.

India and Australia have already announced that their foreign ministers will attend Trump’s inauguration.

This will be Iwaya’s first visit to America since his appointment as Japan’s foreign minister in October 2024. Japan, as a long-term ally of America, which had good relations with Washington during Trump’s first administration, plans to establish good relations with America at the beginning of his second administration.
