These forces collectively transform industries and professions on a global scale.

The biggest challenge for business expansion will be the widening gap between existing and needed skills, as approximately 40% of the competencies needed in the workplace will change. This skills mismatch is now a pressing concern, with nearly two-thirds of employers, 63 percent, citing it as a major barrier to growth. Since the labor market is changing rapidly, this gap can create a severe bottleneck.

While technology skills in artificial intelligence, big data, and cybersecurity are expected to see increased demand, human-centric abilities such as creative thinking, flexibility, and adaptability will remain essential. Professional growth depends on a combination of these technical and soft skills.

Dynamics of the labor market

According to the World Economic Forum, the rising cost of living has emerged as a catalyst for change in the labor market, with half of employers predicting it will transform their business models.

Despite the recent decline in global inflation, continued price pressures combined with slower economic growth are expected to have broad implications for employment. This economic turmoil forces both companies and workers to reassess their positions and strategies in an increasingly volatile market.

In addition, different patterns in demographic trends are expected to have a significant impact on the global workforce.

Aging populations in more developed economies will increase the demand for healthcare professionals, while a growing working-age population in low-income areas will fuel the growth of education-related roles. To fill these gaps, businesses must prioritize talent management skills, training and coaching.

Furthermore, geopolitical tensions are a top concern for employers, with 34% of companies citing it as a top issue. The ripple effects of these conflicts, including trade restrictions and changes in industrial policies, are forcing many businesses to rethink their operational strategies.

Some are exploring offshoring and restructuring options to reduce risks and capitalize on emerging opportunities. In addition, geopolitical pressures are fueling demand for specialized skills, particularly in areas such as cybersecurity, as businesses strive to protect their interests in an increasingly complex global environment.

Notably, nearly half of employers are considering internal restructuring, moving employees from AI-sensitive positions to other roles within their organization. This solution addresses current skills shortages while also mitigating the potential negative impact of technological disruption on employment.

Winners and losers

According to this report, some main occupations are expected to lead to labor market growth by 2030. Occupations such as farm workers, delivery drivers and construction workers are expected to see significant increases. This trend is expanding into key sectors, primarily nursing professionals and high school teachers, with significant growth expected in health care and education.

Jobs in the field of artificial intelligence, robotics and energy systems will also be in high demand. Big data specialists, fintech engineers, artificial intelligence and machine learning specialists, and software and application developers are among the fastest growing occupations in terms of percentage.

The global shift towards sustainability also affects labor market trends. Green and energy transition careers will also become more prominent, with positions such as self-driving and electric vehicle specialists, environmental engineers, and renewable energy engineers being among the jobs that They have the fastest growth.
