Trump’s telephone conversation and Danish prime minister

European officials said Trump's and Danish prime minister has been tensioned.

According toMehr News Agency to Quoting from the Financial Times newspaper, senior European officials announced: US President Donald Trump emphasized his seriousness and decision to take over Greenland in a heated telephone conversation with the Danish Prime Minister.

According to this report, the President of the United States last week had a 45-minute conversation with Fredriksen, the Prime Minister of Denmark.

The White House has not commented on the call, but Frederiksen said he emphasized in the conversation that Greenland is an autonomous part of the Kingdom of Denmark. and cannot be sold.

In this tense phone call with the Prime Minister of Denmark, Trump emphasized his seriousness to take over Greenland.

Five current and former senior European officials briefed on the call said: This conversation has gone very badly.

They added: Trump has behaved aggressively and confrontationally after the Danish Prime Minister stated that this island is not for sale.

Despite this issue, he had suggested more cooperation in the field of military bases and exploitation of mineral resources.

One of these people said: This call was terrible. Another added: “He was very adamant, it was hard to take it seriously before, but now I think it’s serious and probably very dangerous.

Financial Times wrote: The details of the call are likely to deepen European concerns that Trump’s return to power could further strain transatlantic relations.

The US president pressures allies to give up their territory.

Many European officials hoped that Trump’s statements about trying to control Greenland for reasons of “national security” were just a negotiating tactic to gain more influence over the NATO territory.

But Trump’s contact with Fredericksen has destroyed these hopes and deepened the foreign policy crisis among NATO allies.

One of the people who was involved in this call said: The goal was very clear. They want Greenland.

The Danes are now in a critical state.

Another person added: “The Danes are extremely frightened by this issue.”

A former Danish official stated: This conversation was very difficult. Trump threatened Denmark with specific measures such as targeted tariffs.

The Danish Prime Minister’s Office announced: It does not confirm the interpretation of this conversation by anonymous sources.

Greenland, with a population of about 57,000, is the entry point to new shipping routes that are gradually opening up through the Arctic, and also has rich but difficult-to-access mineral resources.

A spokesman for the White House National Security Council said: President Trump has made it clear that the safety and security of Greenland is important to the United States, as China and Russia are making significant investments throughout the Arctic region.

He added: The President is committed not only to protecting the interests of the United States in the Arctic, but also to working with Greenland to ensure the mutual prosperity of both nations.

In early January, Trump threatened to impose tariffs on Denmark if it disagreed with him over Greenland.

He also did not rule out the possibility of using military force to control this island.

Trump said in a news conference a few days before assuming the presidency: People don’t even know whether Denmark has a legal right to this island or not?

But if he has any right, he should give it up, because we need it for national security.

He added: I am talking about the protection of the free world. Chinese ships are everywhere. Russian ships are everywhere. We will not allow this to happen.
