UN Secretary-General Stephen Dujarik welcomed Ocalan’s remarks to disarm the Kurdistan Workers’ Party.
he said: “UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed these words and supports the disarmament of PKK.” This can settle a long -term conflict in the region through peacefulness.
Dujannik added: Ocalan’s remarks create a light of hope to end a long conflict in the area that caused pain and suffering on civilians.
clashes between the PKK militants and the Turkish central government began in the 1980s. The Kurdistan Workers’ Party had a communist thinking and sought the independence of the eastern Kurdish regions of Türkiye. Since then, the conflict has left tens of thousands of people dead and injured.
Iraq’s welcome to Abdullah Ocalan’s statement
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry issued a statement: “We welcome Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party to abandon the weapons, and consider it a positive and important step in achieving stability in the region.
Iraq, which witnesses the presence of Kurdistan in its northern part, has always been exposed to Ankara’s assault because of Turkey’s allegations of cooperation with Iraqi Kurds in its northern part.
Baghdad hopes to return to the northern regions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party again.
