Planting trees is a virtuous act

Imam Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, planted three saplings in his office premises on March 5, 2025 on the occasion of Iran’s National Tree Planting Day.

Following the planting of these saplings, Imam Khamenei described tree planting as a beneficial act, a forward-looking endeavor, and a means of wealth creation. He underscored the importance of giving serious attention to the national tree-planting movement initiated last year under the administration of martyred President Ebrahim Raisi. “Everyone should participate in tree planting as a righteous and virtuous act, so that with an increase in trees, our living environment will gain freshness and vitality,” he remarked.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution described his yearly tradition of planting saplings as a symbolic gesture to remind people that tree planting transcends the bounds of youth. He emphasized that individuals of all ages should be inspired and driven to engage in this important, significant, essential, and beautiful endeavor.

Imam Khamenei asserted that tree planting is a profitable investment from multiple angles and a means of generating wealth. “Planting trees, regardless of the motivation behind it – whether driven by the desire to harvest fruit from productive trees or to harness the value of timber from certain species – is an entirely profitable measure in which there is no loss,” he stated.

He explained that trees and agricultural fields play a vital role in maintaining clean air. Emphasizing the significance of the environment, he remarked, “In addition to enhancing air quality, trees and cultivated plants refresh our living spaces and environment, uplifting the human spirit as they are aesthetically pleasing and comforting to the soul.”

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution highlighted the importance of seriously committing to the national tree-planting initiative that was launched during Martyr Raisi’s administration. He pointed out that this campaign, which commenced last year and continues to progress, shows that planting one billion trees within four years is achievable, and he urged government institutions to support the public in this effort.

Imam Khamenei cautioned against tree removal and the alteration of agricultural land use, asserting that cutting down trees, except in technical and necessary cases, constitutes a loss and poses a risk. He emphasized that the destruction of forests and the conversion of agricultural lands must be prevented. He also acknowledged the positive progress made in this area in Tehran and other cities, urging that these efforts should be sustained.
