New York Times: America cuts all NATO budget!
reports Mehr News Agency He wrote that US President Donald Trump is considering the proposed budget that will cut almost the budget of all international organizations, including the United Nations and NATO.
According to two US officials, the proposal is part of a plan to reduce the State Department’s budget by about 2 %. The plan also includes restricting international peace operations, all the Ministry of Foreign education and cultural exchanges, and the discontinuation of humanitarian aid and global health programs as much as 5 %. It is still unclear whether US Secretary of State Marco Rubio agrees with the plan.
Associated Press sources confirmed the proposal, but insisted that the plan should be reviewed several times before submitting it to Congress. A senior US official in a conversation with the Associated Press described the budget as “offensive” within the framework of cost reduction goals.
US State Department spokesman Temi Bruce said the United States is still committed to NATO. He claimed that Washington, however, does not regard the military coalition as a tool for warfare, but rather a deterrent.
The Trump administration has repeatedly pressured NATO members to increase their military spending, saying that the financial burden on the United States is inappropriate compared to other members of the military coalition. Trump has warned that those members of NATO who fail to fulfill the obligations and goals of increased military costs will not be subjected to NATO’s defense umbrella if they are invaded.
