Head of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement Mourns Passing of Catholic Leader, Says Pope’s Historic Visit Will Remain in Memory of Iraq and the World
According to a report by the English section of Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and the official news outlet of Iraq’s National wisdom Movement, Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, head of the movement, expressed condolences over the passing of the global catholic leader in a message.
In his statement, hakim said: “We have learned with deep sorrow of the passing of Pope Francis, leader of the Vatican. On this occasion, we recall his role in promoting peace, serving humanity, and fostering interfaith dialog.”
He further stated: “We also remember his historic visit to Iraq and meeting with His Eminence grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, the revered religious authority in Najaf—an event that will forever remain etched in the memory of both Iraqis and people worldwide.”
Concluding his message, Hakim extended condolences to the Christian community and prayed for eternal peace for Pope Francis’ soul.
