Amani’s Key Talking Points in Lebanese Media Interview: From “Pager” to “Summons” Controversy
Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon Stresses: I Was Invited by the Lebanese Foreign Ministry, Not Summoned; Current Commitments Prevent Attendance. We Will Plan to Visit at an Appropriate time.
According to a report by the English section of Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Mojtaba Amani, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Lebanon, stated in an interview with Al-Jadeed TV: “The pager was in my office and I did not carry it elsewhere. In this wartime atmosphere, the device could assist me. It was for defense in case of any attack.”
Amani emphasized that he had received an invitation from Hani Chemaly,Secretary-General of the Lebanese Foreign Ministry,to attend a meeting at the ministry on Wednesday. However, he responded that due to current commitments, he could not attend immediately and would determine a suitable time later. He clarified that no summons had been issued and added: “We will plan accordingly for a meeting with him at the designated time.”In response to the question regarding Iran’s stance on the transfer of weapons to Hezbollah, he emphasized: “We adhere to what lebanese organizations have agreed upon.”
Amani further stated that there is occupation in Lebanon, and there are groups seeking to defend themselves and requesting assistance.
He declared that his country supports agreements among Lebanese factions.
Amani noted that the resistance produces whatever it needs itself. The issue of resistance and its weapons is related to the government and agreements, requiring no input from Iran.
The Iranian ambassador, pointing out that “Hezbollah” and “Hamas” have not been defeated, said: “The number of martyrs empowers us, and the resistance will emerge stronger after these wars—and I am not speaking solely about Lebanon. Iran emphasizes supporting the oppressed, and we will not retreat from this humanitarian principle.”
Regarding the ban on Iranian planes landing in Lebanon, Amani said: “The decision to halt flights is linked to perceived threats, and we understand Lebanon’s position.”Relations between Iran and Lebanon are natural and remarkable, and I have dialog and meetings with ministers and all Lebanese factions. Any talk of strained relations is untrue—it is a narrative the Zionist regime seeks to fabricate for its own perceived victory. We aim to participate in Lebanon’s reconstruction and are in talks with some international parties. We are striving to cooperate with the Lebanese government on reconstruction efforts.
He further stated: The Iranian presidency has not yet extended a formal invitation to Joseph Aoun, Lebanon’s president, to visit Tehran, emphasizing that President Aoun is currently occupied with addressing the repercussions of war.Additionally, he stressed: Iran dose not choose between solutions or war under pressure.Indirect talks with the Americans are limited to two issues—Iran’s nuclear activities and sanctions relief—and do not extend to other matters pursued by Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of the Zionist regime.
