White House Considers Lifting Russian Oil Sanctions to End Ukraine War
An American media outlet revealed that Washington is considering lifting sanctions on Russian assets in Europe as part of negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
According to the English section of Webangah News Agency, citing Qatar’s Al Jazeera, the U.S. newspaper Politico reported that the White House is reviewing the removal of sanctions on Russian assets in Europe as part of talks to halt the war.
The report states that this decision specifically concerns the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline, a key Russian energy project.
Informed sources claim that “Steve Witkoff,” former President Trump’s special envoy for middle East affairs, is a leading advocate for lifting energy-sector sanctions against Russia.
Politico added that Witkoff has proposed removing sanctions on this segment of russia’s economy, but his suggestion has faced important opposition thus far.
The report notes that among those opposing the idea are Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Homeland Security Secretary, who also chairs the National Energy Council.
Citing an anonymous informed source, Politico further stated: Some Trump governance officials believe Russia deceived Witkoff regarding economic opportunities available to Washington.
