Beijing Denies Trump’s Claims on China-US Trade Talks
Beijing Denies Claims of Trade Talks with US as ‘Baseless’
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has refuted claims about trade negotiations between Beijing and Washington, calling them “baseless,” according to a report by France 24, cited by Mehr News Agency and published by the English section of Webangah News Agency.
Following U.S. President Donald Trump’s imposition of tariffs on Chinese imports—which sparked a trade conflict between the two nations—Beijing and Washington have engaged in a trade war, retaliating with tit-for-tat tariffs.
Currently, U.S. duties on Chinese goods stand at 145%, while China has raised tariffs on American imports to 125%.
This trade war, which trump claims was launched in response to Beijing’s “unfair” trade practices against Washington, has overshadowed global markets and raised fears of an economic downturn worldwide.
Beijing maintains that Trump’s allegations…The claim that negotiations between the two countries are taking place daily is untrue. “He Yadong,” spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce, stated on the matter: ”As the spokesperson for the ministry responsible for foreign economic affairs and trade relations, I would like to emphasize that currently, there are no ongoing economic or trade negotiations between China and the United States.”
He stressed: Any claims about progress in economic and trade talks between china and the U.S. are baseless and lack any factual foundation. China urges the U.S. to correct its wrong approaches and demonstrate the sincerity required to return to equal dialog and consultation.
Yesterday, Trump told reporters that America would reach a fair deal with China. When asked whether there was direct contact between the U.S. and China on trade matters, he claimed: “Every day!”
in response to this claim, China’s Foreign Ministry described reports of “ongoing” negotiations as “false.”
