Turkish Police Launch New Wave of Arrests Across the Country
According to a report by the english section of webangah News Agency,citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Al-Youm,Turkish authorities announced the arrest of 47 more individuals in connection with the “Istanbul Municipality Corruption Case.”
The report states that Turkish police detained the suspects in Istanbul and Ankara, including the Director General of Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration and the office manager of Ekrem İmamoğlu, former mayor of Istanbul.
On March 19,at least 94 people,including İmamoğlu—a political rival of turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan—were arrested. His detention sparked widespread protests among Turkish citizens,as İmamoğlu was considered a potential presidential candidate for the Republican people’s Party (CHP) in upcoming elections.
