Chinese Embassy in the U.S. Denies President’s Claim About Trade Talks on Tariffs
The Chinese Embassy in Washington has denied claims by the U.S. President regarding any trade negotiations between the two countries on tariffs.
According to a report by the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News agency and Xinhua,a spokesperson for Beijing’s embassy dismissed assertions of ongoing trade talks between China and the U.S. over tariffs.
The Chinese diplomat criticized American officials’ claims that discussions had taken place, stating: “To my knowledge, there have been no consultations or negotiations between China and Russia on tariff issues—let alone any agreement being reached!”
Emphasizing that the U.S. unilaterally escalated the trade war, the spokesperson added: “Whoever tied this knot must untie it themselves.”
Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump had claimed that trade talks between America and China were underway, asserting…Who is it? Perhaps we will announce it later, but they had a meeting on Thursday morning, and we are currently negotiating with China.
After Trump imposed tariffs on Chinese imports, sparking a trade conflict between the two countries, Beijing and Washington have engaged in a trade war, retaliating with tit-for-tat tariffs to push each other back.
Currently, U.S.tariffs on Chinese goods stand at 145%, while Beijing has raised duties on American imports to 125%.
This trade war—which Trump claims was launched in retaliation for Beijing’s “unfair” trade practices against washington—has overshadowed global markets and raised fears of a worldwide recession.
