Former Pakistani foreign Minister Threatens​ India Over Suspension of Water Treaty Following “Pulwama”​ Attack

Pakistan’s former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto ​Zardari⁤ issued‍ a sharp warning to neighboring India regarding the suspension of a bilateral water agreement‌ after the “Pulwama” attack, escalating tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi.

According to the English section ‌of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr news Agency and Indian media, Bhutto Zardari—son of the late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto—responded fiercely to India’s move amid heightened tensions following⁢ an attack on tourists ⁢in Indian-administered Kashmir.

“Either Water Flows, or Blood!”

Bhutto declared that Pakistan woudl not tolerate any interference in its rights over the Indus River,‌ calling it the “lifeline” of Pakistan and its people. He stated: “I want to tell‍ India that the Indus belongs to us and always will. Either our river’s water flows in it, or their blood!”

Pakistan’s former Foreign Minister and current leader of ⁢the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, accused India of ‍violating the Indus Waters Treaty, calling its⁢ actions illegal and unacceptable. He stated, “You‍ cannot unilaterally break a water treaty with a single move.”

Pakistan Will Deliver a strong Response

Emphasizing the strength and⁢ unity of⁢ Pakistan’s armed forces and people, Bhutto added, “The ⁢people of Pakistan are valiant. We will fight. Our ‍forces are prepared to respond to⁤ any aggression.”

Support for Shehbaz​ Sharif

Despite ⁤political differences with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Bhutto asserted, “When it comes to our water rights,⁢ we stand united as a nation.”

He accused Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of exploiting the Pulwama‍ attack to divert attention from domestic failures: “Modi has leveled⁢ false allegations and is using this (attack) to suspend the treaty and mislead his people.”

The ex-Foreign Minister highlighted that his party and the⁢ people of sindh have long opposed controversial water projects.India has resisted and stated: “We will ⁢not allow India’s plans to succeed.”

The Indian government, in response to ‌the ⁢Pahalgam attack that killed 26 tourists, decided to suspend its water treaty with Pakistan. This historic treaty ⁢was signed in 1960. During a meeting held at the residence of amit Shah, India’s Home minister, attended by Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Water Resources Minister ​ C.R. Patil, a ⁣three-stage strategy against Islamabad was proposed. Patil stated: “Pakistan will not receive⁢ a ‌single drop of water.”
