Russian Air Defense Intercepts Attack Drones in Northwestern Syria, Syrian Sources Report
Syrian sources reported that Russian air defense systems stationed at the Hmeimim Air base intercepted unfriendly drones approaching the base’s airspace. According too Al Masirah News, cited by Mehr News Agency, Russian defense systems engaged and countered the drones.
The sources did not identify the drones or specify which party launched them.
The Hmeimim Air Base, located near the Mediterranean coast in Jablah, Latakia Governorate (western Syria), provides direct access to maritime operations. Its strategic position enables aerial and naval missions with sea-based support while facilitating easier access to coastal regions and other parts of syria.
Russia has utilized this base for military operations in Syria,particularly during the Syrian civil war,conducting airstrikes,surveillance,and logistical support.
