On Monday, North Korea confirmed for the first time that, under orders from leader Kim Jong Un, it had deployed troops to fight alongside Russia against Ukraine and played a key role in liberating Russian territories occupied by Ukrainian forces. The official North Korean news agency (KCNA) stated: “The victorious conclusion of the battle to free Russia’s Kursk region demonstrates the highest level of strategic solidarity and militant friendship between North Korea and Russia.”
Last week, Russia claimed it had expelled Ukrainian forces from the last remaining Russian village under their control. However, Kyiv denied this assertion, stating that Ukrainian troops remain active in Belgorod, another border region between Russia and Ukraine.
