The cause of the outage is still unclear. Cities including Lisbon, Madrid, Seville, Barcelona, and Valencia are among the affected areas. The disruption began around 12:30 Central European Time (14:00 Iran time).
The Madrid Open tennis tournament has been suspended. Reports indicate that Madrid’s metro system has been evacuated,and traffic lights across the city have gone dark.

In Madrid, traffic police are using loudspeakers to direct crowds, and ATMs remain nonfunctional. The Canary Islands remain unaffected by the outage.
