Massive Strike by Over 50,000 Workers in Los Angeles Paralyzes Public Services
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Al-Youm, more than 50,000 workers in Los Angeles, USA, began their strike on Tuesday afternoon.
The report states that officials from the public sector workers’ union announced the strike was organized in response to failed negotiations with contractors over a new labor agreement after the previous contract expired last March.
Over 55,000 workers are members of this union, operating across various sectors including public health, park maintenance, and sanitation services. The union emphasized that this marks the first time all its members have gone on strike together.
A union representative stressed that these workers have managed consecutive crises in Los Angeles—from widespread wildfires to public health and social emergencies.
The strike is expected to end by Wednesday evening, during which administrative offices, select healthcare facilities, and service operations will remain closed.
