Painful tragedy of amputated children in Gaza and dreams that were buried
Amputation of Gaza Children’s Limbs Among the Worst Human Suffering During Zionist Enemy’s Genocide; Where Thier Childhood Dreams Are Buried Amid the Hope for Prosthetics
The English section of Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Palestinian Shahab News Agency, reports that children who have lost limbs in the Gaza Strip during the genocidal war waged by the Zionist regime against this enclave since October 2023 are among the greatest victims of the occupiers’ crimes—their stories are heartbreaking.
Noura, a 9-Year-Old Girl Whose Life Ended Before It Began
Noura, a 9-year-old Palestinian girl from Gaza, is one such child. She was targeted alongside her family in an attack by Zionist regime warplanes in western Gaza City, losing both her legs.
The tragedy of this young Palestinian girl—now the sole surviving member of her family—is not limited to losing her legs.
The tragedy became even more heartbreaking when Nour lost her mother, father, and siblings in the bombing of their home. Before the war, Nour was a happy and lively child with dreams like any other. But now, at just nine years old, she finds her life shattered—having lost both legs and with no family left.
Hussam Shamalkh, Nour’s uncle, took custody of his niece after the martyrdom of her entire family. He says: “Nour has been robbed of her life and dreams. She can no longer perform even the simplest daily tasks or play her favorite games with other children—let alone go anywhere. What crime did she commit to have her life end before it even began?”
He added: “What intensifies Nour’s suffering is the lack of even the most basic prosthetic limb supplies in Gaza…
We emphasize the urgent need for international intervention to assist amputees in Gaza.Nour is one of thousands of children who have lost limbs during Israel’s brutal war against the residents of the Gaza Strip from October 2023 to the present.
hossam Shelmakh added: “The suffering of these children is exacerbated by the lack of medical treatment, equipment, and necessary rehabilitation—both physical and psychological. They cannot come to terms with their new reality or accept that they have lost their limbs.”
according to a report by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA),Gaza has the largest number of child amputees in modern history. during ceasefire periods, aid provided to amputee children covered only 20% of their needs becuase Israel blocks prosthetic devices under the pretext that they could be used for military purposes.
One of the officials from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs stated that Gaza is now home to the largest group of child amputees in modern history.
Nabil, an 11-Year-Old Boy Who Dreamed of Becoming a Footballer
Nabil, an 11-year-old Palestinian boy who once dreamed of becoming a star in the local youth football team Al-Shujaiya, now sits in a wheelchair after losing both legs and one arm. His only remaining dream is to find prosthetic limbs.
This Palestinian boy, who believes his life has been destroyed, says: “My dream was to wear Al-Shujaiya’s jersey and make my family proud, but the occupying enemy destroyed everything. Now, my only wish is to stand again and have artificial legs so I can walk without anyone’s help.”
Despite undergoing multiple surgeries, Nabil’s condition remains critical due to insufficient specialized equipment for constructing prosthetics.
There is no specialized medical care in Gaza, and no expert doctors are available for this purpose. Her only hope is that a ceasefire will one day be established, allowing her to travel outside Gaza for medical treatment.
Shadi Hamdan, a 7-year-old Palestinian girl in the Gaza Strip who also lost her legs, says: “One day, my father told me to come outside with him for a walk. When we left the house, bullets rained down on us like a storm—I was hit in the legs, and my father was struck in the shoulder.”
Shadi underwent two surgeries, and her family had hoped to evacuate her from Gaza to provide proper medical care. However, due to severe infection amid the lack of adequate medical facilities and resources, doctors were forced to amputate both legs of this little girl who is no more than 7 years old.
According to official statistics from Gaza’s Ministry of Health, around 6,000 residents of the Strip have suffered amputations during the war. Due to shortages of specialized resources and equipment… (text cut off)High Number of Amputations in Gaza Complicates Medical Efforts; Red Cross Reports Challenges in Delivering Prosthetics
The high number of amputations in Gaza has further complex efforts to provide medical care, with Red Cross officials recently reporting that bringing prosthetic limbs into the Gaza Strip remains a major challenge.many victims struggle to find treatment and are even deprived of access to artificial limbs.
Occupiers’ Use of Banned Weapons Escalates Amputation Cases
On the other hand, Marwan Al-Hams, Director General of Field Hospitals in the Gaza Strip, stated: “Gaza has recorded the highest amputation rate during this war. The types of weapons used by the Zionist enemy against civilians are extremely dangerous, causing irreversible damage to victims’ bodies.”
He added: “The injuries we see in hospitals are vastly different in nature—limbs are horrifically severed, and bodies bear horrific burns due to the Zionist regime’s use of banned weapons.”Gaza Medical Official Stresses Most Victims Arrive at Hospitals with Severed Limbs
A Gaza medical official emphasized that most victims arrive at hospitals with amputated limbs. “Unfortunately, due to the suffocating siege imposed by the enemy,we lack the resources to provide proper medical care for them. Currently, we cannot supply prosthetic limbs for thousands of amputees and lack adequate facilities for reconstructive surgery on those whose faces and bodies have been disfigured by Zionist army missiles and bullets,” he said.
The director of Gaza’s field hospitals added: “There is only one prosthetic limb center in Gaza, and although it resumed operations during the brief ceasefire, it lacks many essential supplies to meet amputees’ needs. With the resumption of Zionist attacks, conditions have worsened further.”
