Senior official in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir: Border residents stock up on food
Pakistan-administered Kashmir urges residents near Indian border to stockpile food amid rising tensions.
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency adn Al-Watan, Pakistan-administered Kashmir on Friday called on residents near the border with Indian-administered Kashmir to stockpile food due to escalating clashes between the two countries.
Chaudhry Anwar Haq,a senior official in Pakistan-administered Kashmir,stated that directives have been issued for border-area residents to store two months’ worth of food supplies. The regional government has also established an emergency fund of 1 billion rupees ($3.5 million) to ensure provisions of “food, medicine, and other essentials” across 13 districts in the region. Additionally, government and private-sector teams have been deployed to maintain road conditions along the Line of Control (LoC).
The Indian military claims Islamabad and New Delhi have engaged in consecutive nights of cross-border shelling and punitive measures along the militarized LoC.Recent attacks and subsequent tensions have led to suspensions, expulsions, and closures of border crossings between the two nations.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has granted full operational freedom to the military. Meanwhile, Pakistan denies involvement in recent hostilities but asserts it possesses credible evidence that India is planning an imminent military strike.
