Al Jazeera: Jumblatt calls for monopoly of weapons in the hands of the Syrian authority
Al Jazeera, citing Syrian sources, reports that the leader of Lebanon’s Druze has called for the exclusive control of weapons in Syria to remain with the country’s sovereignty.
according to a report by the English section of “Webangah News Agency” quoting Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera,Walid Jumblatt,head of Lebanon’s Progressive Socialist Party (Druze),traveled to Damascus to meet with Ahmed al-Sharaa,head of Syria’s self-proclaimed government.
Al jazeera cited an official Syrian source stating that Ahmed al-Sharaa (Abu Muhammad al-Julani) and his foreign minister, Asaad al-Shaibani, met with Walid Jumblatt at the presidential palace in Damascus.
The official Syrian source reported that recent developments in the As-Suwayda region and the outskirts of Damascus were discussed during this meeting.
According to this source’s statement to Al Jazeera, Jumblatt expressed his opposition to calls for international support for Syria and emphasized the necessity of keeping weapons exclusively under Syrian sovereignty.
The official source added that Jumblatt demanded forming an investigative committee to identify those responsible for incidents in Jaramana and Sahnaya.
He stressed that violent events in Syria are part of a seditious project and reaffirmed commitment to an agreement on preserving Syria’s unity.
