More than 210 media workers killed in Israeli attack on Gaza
palestinian media sources reported that as the beginning of the Zionist regime’s attack on the Gaza Strip (October 2023), over 210 journalists have been martyred.
According to a report by the English section of “webangah News Agency,” citing Mehr News Agency and al jazeera Qatar, the Palestinian government’s media office in Gaza announced that since Israel’s aggression on Gaza began, 212 journalists have been martyred, and 409 others have been injured.
The office stated that Israeli occupying forces have so far arrested 48 journalists, many of whom have been subjected to torture in detention.
The report also highlights that 143 media institutions have been targeted by the Zionist regime’s military.
The Palestinian government’s media office in Gaza called on international organizations to take immediate action to investigate the occupiers’ crimes against journalists and demanded urgent international support for media personnel, as well as an end to the media blockade imposed on Gaza.
Simultaneously occurring, António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, emphasized that journalists must be able to work freely everywhere—without fear or discrimination.
He added: “When journalists cannot do their jobs, we all lose—and freedom for nations depends on press freedom.”
