Reform Party Emerges as UK’s Main Opposition ⁢After Stunning Local Election Success

The Reform Party, led by Nigel Farage, has solidified its position as the primary ‌rival to the UK’s two major parties—the Conservatives (tories)⁣ and Labor (Whigs)—and the main opposition to ⁢the ruling Labour​ Party following a remarkable victory ‍in local ‍elections.

According to a report by ​ Webangah News Agency,citing Mehr News Agency and BBC World,Reform secured 677 ⁢out of approximately 1,600 council seats,many of ⁢which were previously‌ held by the Conservatives.

BBC world noted that Reform‍ took⁣ control of ⁤eight councils,⁣ including key strongholds like Kent and Staffordshire, while also gaining authority over Doncaster—Labour’s⁣ sole defending council. additionally, Durham Council, predominantly under Labour’s control before⁣ the ⁤election, ⁢was handed to Reform.

This marks Reform’s​ first-ever takeover of UK councils and a debut triumph in mayoral elections. A jubilant Farage ​declared these results prove​ Reform has replaced the Tories⁣ as the principal opposition to Prime Minister Keir starmer‘s ruling Labour Party.⁤

The local elections—held across 23 predominantly rural and suburban‌ councils—served as Labour’s first⁣ major electoral test​ sence its landslide victory ⁣in last year’s general ⁤election. ‍

With ‌votes counted from ⁤1,067 out of 1,400 ⁤polling ​stations so far:

  • Reform‌ leads at 32%,
  • Labour trails at 19%,
  • Conservatives follow with 18%.
