US preparing new sanctions against Russia Trump has the final word
Reuters, citing informed sources, reported that teh U.S.has finalized a new package of economic sanctions against Russia.
According to the English section of “Webangah News Agency” citing Mehr News Agency and TASS, Reuters reported that the U.S. has prepared and finalized a new set of economic sanctions against Moscow to increase pressure on Russia to resolve the Ukraine war.
Earlier reports indicated that U.S. President Donald Trump did not rule out imposing new sanctions on Russia if an immediate ceasefire was not achieved.
Last Monday, Moscow proposed a three-day ceasefire (May 8–10) and expressed its willingness to begin “direct negotiations with Kyiv without any preconditions.” However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed this overture as “deceptive” and insisted on a 30-day ceasefire instead.
Reuters wrote that a U.S. official stated—without providing details—that the new sanctions target Russia’s state-owned energy giant Gazprom and major entities linked to natural resources and the banking sector in the country.
Russia has been under U.S. sanctions as 2014 over the ukraine crisis, which intensified after Moscow launched its military operation in Kyiv in February 2022.
citing an informed source, Reuters reported that the U.S National Security Council is working to coordinate punitive measures against Russia. The source added that these sanctions require Trump’s approval before implementation. Another unnamed official emphasized: “This decision rests entirely with Trump.”
Amid efforts by the Trump governance to mediate between Moscow and Kyiv for ending the Ukraine war, reports emerged about trump’s peace plan, which includes recognizing Crimea as Russian territory along with halting hostilities along current frontlines while allowing Moscow control over large portions of Ukrainian land annexed at war’s start—and also phased sanction relief for Russia and blocking Ukraine from joining NATO.**
