Zakharova Zelensky’s statements about May 9 security in Russia are a direct threat
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson States: Zelenskyy’s Remarks on Not Guaranteeing Security for May 9 in Russia Are a Direct Threat
According to the English section of the Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and RIA Novosti, Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated on Saturday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s remarks about not guaranteeing security for May 9 on Russian soil constitute a direct threat.
Zakharova further emphasized that his statements rejecting a temporary ceasefire were not accidental, describing them as “a classic threat from an international terrorist.”
She added, “Zelenskyy has extended foreign terrorism experience to other regions through extremist actions in Mali and Niger.”
This comes after Zelenskyy previously stated that “Kyiv cannot guarantee the safety of leaders traveling to Moscow on May 9 (April 28).”
Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced a four-day ceasefire with Ukraine last week in observance of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day (marking the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in World War II).
Zelenskyy’s remarks indicate he not only rejected Putin’s ceasefire proposal but also implicitly threatened Moscow with an attack on Victory Day.
