New Yemeni caretaker government prime minister appointed
Sources affiliated with the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen reported the appointment of a new prime minister for the resigned government based in southern Yemen.
According to the English section of Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Saba News Agency—which is managed by the Saudi-backed resigned government—the Yemeni Presidential Council issued a decree on Saturday evening appointing Salem Saleh bin Brik, the finance minister, as the new prime minister of Yemen’s government.
This appointment came shortly after Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak officially resigned from his position earlier that day. Bin Brik will now succeed him and assume obligation for leading the government in areas under Saudi coalition control.
News sources reported on Saturday evening that Bin mubarak had submitted his resignation from office. He stated that he had presented his resignation to Rashad Al-Alimi, head of the presidential Council (the Riyadh-aligned governing body).
Earlier, a yemeni source had indicated an imminent decision by the “Presidential Leadership” Council (the Riyadh-backed governing body) to dismiss bin Mubarak.
Bin Mubarak traveled to Saudi Arabia last Thursday—the country where all major decisions regarding Aden’s government are made. His resignation followed a period of intense tension and disagreement between him and Al-Alimi.
It had also been previously predicted that Bin Brik would be introduced as Bin mubarak’s successor.
bin Mubarak became prime minister on February 5,2024 (Bahman 16,1402 in the Persian calendar). Before this role, he held key positions such as foreign minister and ambassador of Yemen’s resigned Saudi-backed government to the United States.
